Carol's Syrup for the Oranges

Method

  1. 1.Boil up 1¾ cups sugar and 1¾ cups water.
  2. 2.Add the orange rind strips to this and boil about 10 minutes.
  3. 3.Remove the strips and place on a lightly oiled pan.
  4. 4.Return the syrup to heat and boil uncovered, a further 5 minutes, until pale gold and syrupy.
  5. 5.Remove from heat.
  6. 6.Add an extra ¼ cup water.
  7. 7.Stir till mixed through syrup.
  8. 8.Cool.
  9. 9.Stir in 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier and 2 teaspoons lemon juice.
