Method

  1. 1.Mix the meat, egg, onion, applesauce and breadcrumbs.
  2. 2.Season with the nutmeg, garlic salt, salt and pepper.
  3. 3.Form into little patties and brown lightly in some oil.
  4. 4.Combine the sauce ingredients (brown sugar, tomatoes, tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, lemon juice and sherry).
  5. 5.Bring the sauce to the boil and simmer gently for a few minutes to blend.
  6. 6.Pour over the meat balls and bake about ¾ hour in a moderate oven — 325°F (170°C).
  7. 7.If sauce looks too thick, thin with a little water.
