Sheila's Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Ingredients
- 1.500 gram beef mince
- 2.1 egg
- 3.1 onion, small, finely grated
- 4.0.5 cup applesauce
- 5.0.25 cup breadcrumbs
- 6.nutmeg, pinch
- 7.garlic salt, sprinkling
- 8.salt and pepper, to taste
- 9.0.25 cup brown sugar, for sauce
- 10.0.25 cup canned tomatoes, drained; for sauce
- 11.1 cup tomato sauce, for sauce
- 12.2 tablespoon BBQ sauce, for sauce
- 13.2 tablespoon lemon juice, for sauce
- 14.2 tablespoon sherry, for sauce
Method
- 1.Mix the meat, egg, onion, applesauce and breadcrumbs.
- 2.Season with the nutmeg, garlic salt, salt and pepper.
- 3.Form into little patties and brown lightly in some oil.
- 4.Combine the sauce ingredients (brown sugar, tomatoes, tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, lemon juice and sherry).
- 5.Bring the sauce to the boil and simmer gently for a few minutes to blend.
- 6.Pour over the meat balls and bake about ¾ hour in a moderate oven — 325°F (170°C).
- 7.If sauce looks too thick, thin with a little water.
