Ingredients
- 1.2 herrings, soaked; filleted and cut into slices
- 2.onion, sliced into rings; some for covering
- 3.bay leaves and peppercorns, 2–3 bayleaves and a few peppercorns
- 4.vegetable oil, good quality; to cover
Method
- 1.Soak 2 herrings. Fillet and cut into slices.
- 2.Cover with some sliced onion rings.
- 3.Add 2–3 bayleaves and a few peppercorns.
- 4.Pour over a good quality oil to cover.
- 5.Eat the next day.
- 6.Keeps for two weeks.
Notes
- Appears on the same card as Marinaded Kippers (marinaded-kippers.yaml).
- A very simple pickled herring — oil-cured with onion, bay and pepper. Ready next day, keeps two weeks.
