Thousand Island Dressing

Ingredients
- 1.125 millilitre tomato sauce, ketchup
- 2.37 millilitre white wine vinegar
- 3.125 millilitre sugar
- 4.onion juice, juice of 1 onion; grate or press to extract juice
- 5.1 garlic, crushed
- 6.125 millilitre mayonnaise
- 7.salt and pepper, to taste
- 8.salad oil, ½ to ¾ cup; added last
Method
- 1.Blend all ingredients well but add the oil last.
- 2.To serve: make a salad with lettuce, croutons and grated hard-boiled egg.
Notes
- Card note on serving: 'To use this dressing make a salad with lettuce, croutons and grated egg.'
- Card tip: 'To Break Lettuce: Roll each lettuce leaf and then break.' (Keeps the lettuce from browning at the cut edges.)
- This is a sweet South African-style Thousand Island — noticeably sweeter than the American original due to ½ cup sugar.
